Halloween 1978 Holographic Stickers

Let’s create a Halloween 1978 holographic sticker. That haunting pumpkin VHS design from Halloween (1978) is one of the most recognizable horror images ever. Turning it into a clean, die-cut holographic sticker is surprisingly easy with the Cricut Explore 3’s sticker function. This method uses white holographic vinyl sticker paper by Cricut and die cut sticker setup.

There’s a gritty charm to the original VHS artwork that makes this design feel a little more raw than modern graphics and that’s exactly what gives the pumpkin its unsettling personality. When you recreate it as a sticker, you’re not just making décor you’re preserving that analog-era aesthetic.

Step-by-Step Tutorial

Open Cricut Design Space. Upload the PNG to the canvas. Resize to either 1.5″ or 2″. Use 1.5″ if you want more stickers. Design within 7″ by 7″ on your canvas. Go to effects at the top. Select die cut. Select thin and white then turn off other features.

Now duplicate the sticker to fit as many as you can within the 7″ by 7″ area. Highlight over all of them and click attach in the bottom right corner of the program. Click make.

Select the 8.5″ by 11″ function. Click to the continue. When you print you want to turn off bleed, select the printer, and turn on use system dialog.

This will pop up another window in which you will select the printer and best printer options. See my settings below for a Epson.

Using holographic vinyl sticker paper with the Cricut Explore 3’s die cut setup gives you that professional sticker feel while keeping the design crisp and true to the original Halloween (1978) aesthetic. It’s simple, repeatable, and perfect for making a whole batch of spooky classics.

What makes this project especially easy is how the Cricut handles cutting out the design. The Explore 3 reads those registration marks and cuts right along your offset border, giving you that crisp, professional finish without needing complicated setup. It’s the kind of project that feels impressive but comes together quickly once you’ve done it once. This isn’t a project I suggest trying on earlier models than the Explore 3.

And whether you’re sticking it on a laptop, a water bottle, or even designing your own retro style VHS sleeve; this little pumpkin carries a lot of atmosphere. It’s instantly recognizable to horror fans, subtle enough for everyday use, and just eerie enough to feel like October even when it’s not. Water resistant so hand wash only is a must!
